Start playing

Download the game client below (27 GB — use a wired connection) and unzip it anywhere.
Grab the extras: Mac players want the launcher app; addons go into Interface/AddOns inside the game folder.
Connect: make sure Data/enUS/realmlist.wtf reads set realmlist wow.mod25.com, then log in with your account. Ask the admin for one if you don't have it.

Setup guide

Mac (Apple silicon)

Unzip the client, then install Private WoW Launcher.app from the launcher zip and use it every time — it launches through Terminal on purpose (macOS blocks unsigned apps from the local network silently).
Leave the Terminal window open while playing; minimize it manually if it's in the way.
Stuck on "Connecting"? Quit WoW, then in Terminal run pkill -9 -f WoW.exe; pkill -9 -f -i wine and relaunch.

Windows

Unzip the client and run Wow.exe. If it won't start, try WoWee (a native 3.3.5a client) pointed at realm wow.mod25.com.

Addons (Carbonite, TidyPlates, …)

Unzip the addon, then copy the folder(s) into Interface/AddOns inside the game folder.
On the character-select screen, click AddOns (bottom left) and enable "Load out of date AddOns".
